Vocation

Our goal at Shepherd’s Field Children’s Village is to help each child reach their full potential. We would love to see every child join a loving Forever Family, but sometimes that is not possible. The adoption laws in China do not allow a child over the age of 14 to be adopted. Our commitment to our kids is forever – they will always be a part of our family, whether they reside at Shepherd’s Field or in the Chinese community.

Our vocation department addresses the unique needs of older children, who need more than reading and arithmetic. We teach interactive science, health and wellness, as well as life skills like healthy cooking, car washing, purchasing goods at the local store, and even dissecting a cow eyeball to observe how vision works. The kids love these hands-on activities and their confidence blossoms when they accomplish a skill for themselves. A functioning apartment kitchen is currently under construction, which will be used  to teach life skills more effectively.

Some of our kids who were not adopted are now productive adults in Chinese society and no longer reside at SFCV.  We are proud of their success, and that we were able to help them become independent young adults. We need your help to continue this vital work – so please donate now, or go to our Get Involved page to see the many ways you can be a part of changing a child’s life.
